Jack and the Beanstalk

It is always lovely to see a wide range of ages on stage and this was a very slick and enjoyable show.

There were the usual groaner pun jokes, jokes on current affairs about Brexit and Theresa May, odd jokes for the adults (which I am sure went over the heads of the children!) and jokes local to Herefordshire.  The musical numbers were well played by the band lead by Jon Weller, which had the feet tapping, and the choreography was executed extremely well by the cast and chorus.  The number “A Thousand Years” was a joy to see because, as well as singing it, the cast were signing the words as they sang them and finished by just signing the words of the chorus instead of singing it.

It was good to see Steve Raven, who played Dame Dotty Dimple, back as the dame.  I enjoyed the scene in Dame Dimple’s Bakery, with Simple Simon, played by Sammy Stacey, and King Crumble played by Andrew Baker, and at the end of the scene when Dame Dotty managed to get through the chorus from the back of the stage and ended up next to the King!

Special mention should go to Brit Taylor-Jones and Wendy Tarplee-Morris who were the front and back of Buttermilk and did a lovely little tap dance during Buttermilk’s first appearance.

Jack played by Hannah Pyne and Princess Charlotte played by Evie Woodstock sang beautifully together.  All the parts were really well performed, and I did love Fairy Sugardust’s played by Caitlin Phillips, costume.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening and audience thoroughly enjoy themselves.  Thank you, HAPS, for a lovely evening.
