From his first entrance Dom Napier (Simple Simon) stole the show. He was funny, cheeky (although not always to my taste). For some reason the matinee was a difficult audience but Dom worked really hard to get a reaction from them and held the show together when others either missed their cues or there were pauses when nothing seemed to be happening.

Rachel Evans (Piccalilli) really was a Wicked Witch and there were no shortages of boos whenever she appeared. Her costume and make up was also effective.

Rebecca Eastwood (Princess Charlotte) was in her first role with Harlequin and is a lovely dancer.

Paul Bowman (Dame Dotty Dimple) was, well, The Dame. 24 years as a Panto Dame and he certainly enjoys himself during the performance.

There were some good stage effects and The Giant’s costume was impressive. He certainly scared me!

Harlequin had a new Musical Director, Dan Tomkinson, for this pantomime and although there were just 3 musicians in the pit no-one would have known there were so few as there was plenty of sound and tuneful music.

It was good to see a company with so many young people prepared to take leading roles and the future looks bright for Harlequin.
