Congratulations to Ribchester Amateur Theatrical Society for again producing a family friendly Pantomime.Written and produced by the talented William Thomas, this was a most enjoyable evening from beginning to end.
The experienced Director, David Procter had assembled a group of actors who delivered the original and quirky script with confidence and great enthusiasm. The whole cast worked so well and they certainly appeared to be enjoying themselves, while at the same time giving the audience an evening to remember. The story of Jack and The Beanstalk is well known but this version, although keeping some of the traditional events, gave a very modern slant, with The Giant, on this occasion, being replaced by an evil telecommunication’s owner.
The confident Narrator, Emily Watts, introduced the story in a very conversational manner, encouraging the audience to interact with those on stage and on numerous occasions, persuading the reluctant cast to further the story line. Emily had a great rapport with both the audience and the cast.We were encouraged to tell Jack to “ Get off the phone “ and to “ boo “ The Giant.
Jack, David Riding, played his role confidently as the easily influenced hero of the story. I particularly enjoyed the characterization of Jack’s Mam, played by the experienced Charlotte Green who showed good comic timing as she tried to keep her son in check. The cameo role of Dirty Harry, Connor Nutter was excellent, showing, once more, his versatility. The very accomplished Paul Bell was outstanding as Hugh Munghus, the villain of the piece, revelling in the excellent script. He was always in character. His “ wife “ Svetlania “ played by Chas Hinkley was fascinating to watch as he coolly interpreted the role.
Well done to all the technical team for all their hard work, so essential to the plot. Once again, costumes, props and makeup were excellent and enhanced The Production. Congratulations to all involved. This Award Winning Society goes from strength to strength and I am proud to have them as part of my District. Thank you for your very warm welcome.
