This play by Ron Aldridge is a comedy with laughs from curtain up throughout the play. However this is not a farce but an insight into the reaction of a wife coming to terms with a mid-life crisis when her husband leaves for a younger woman.
Jan Ibberson as the wronged wife Susan, gives a splendid performance as she swings from despair to confident awareness, rejecting then accepting advice from her close friends. Janet Black (Linda) is the closest of these, giving strong, positive advice and her sequence as the Fitness Instructor is very well done. John Castell as the older and Jack Hallam as the younger of her male friends, ably fulfill their very different characters, the former as the languishing, hopeful future husband, the latter as the very willing ‘toy boy’.While Richard Bevans, a totally relaxed Peter, husband of Linda, obviously enjoys his character, who continually ‘puts his foot in it’. The cast is completed by Robert Carr, the erring husband Richard, changing from wheedling to blustering as his chances of returning to Susan become less likely.
Although the laughs were continuous throughout, there were moments of serious consideration, leaving the audience with a very satisfactory appreciation of the evening.
