Who knew ? I was not aware that there was a junior version of ‘Fiddler On The Roof’. That said, considering the content in this show I felt the youngster carried it off. ‘Tradition’ set us off on a journey with some great singing and some fine characterisations by both the company and the principals. Tevye (Robert Broderick) was in fine voice and for someone so young did a great job in this demanding role. His wife Golde (Grace Smith) had good strength of character. The daughters of Tzeitel (Emilia Wright), Hodel (Faith Hewlett) and Chava (Lydia Moore) were well cast and gave very strong performances. It was nice to see the younger daughters of Shprintze (Georgia Turner) and Bielke (Hope Smith) included in ‘Matchmaker. The suitors of Motel (Jaxson Skinner), Perchik (Francis Garrod) and Fyedka (Lucas Gorman-Aflatt) were perfectly cast and gave confident performances. Yente (Sharna Thompson - Dale was the matchmaker and who could forget the butcher Lazar Wolf (Alfie Hudson). He failed to get the hand of Tzeitel but he certainly got the hand of the audience with his great characterisation and confidence for someone so young. All the characters played their parts well.
The costumes and sets worked well and everyone gave their all. Congratulations must go to William Knight, Director/Producer and Rachel Flynn, Musical Director on bringing this junior version to the stage. Many thanks to all both onstage and backstage for a wonderful evening. Well done.
