Wonderful performances were provided by the entire cast of the drama group in this the Scottish Amateur premier of ‘It’s a Wonderful life’.  Set in the fictional town of Bedford Falls on Christmas 1946, Peter Paterson provided an outstanding performance commanding the stage as George Bailey, the man who gave up his personal dreams to help others in the community whilst holding responsibility for running the Bailey Building and Loan Association which his father established. Vicious slum landlord and arch-enemy Henry F Potter was brilliantly characterised by Liam McKinstray, as the richest and meanest man in town, who triggered a warrant for George’s arrest following scatterbrain “Uncle” Billy Bailey, played by John Bergin, absentmindedly wrapped $8K in Potter’s newspaper.  Fearing the worst and with thoughts of suicide, second-class guardian angel, Clarissa Peabody, perceptively played by Helen McAleer, is sent to save George to earn her wings, showing him the lives he has touched and what the world would have been like without him.  Sterling performances were provided by Nicole Henderson as Mary Hatch (Bailey) the love of George’s life and eventual wife; Olivia Wakeley, the young Mary; Taylor Moyes, George’s younger and more successful brother; Connor Marshall as successful businessman Sam Wainwright; Mark Andrews, Bert the Cop; Denise Reynolds as Violet Bick with Ciara Richards as the young Violet; Bill McCloy as Pharmacist Mr Gower; May McKendrick and Nicole Cowan as the angelic Angels Gloria and Joan; Sarah Murdoch as Mrs Thomson; Hannah Tweedie as Ruth Bailey and Rosa Costa as Mrs Davies.  The production of this heart-warming and life affirming classic was of the highest standard, prompting us at this Christmas season to think about what we can do to make this world a better place and that ‘No man is a failure who has friends”.  Production team and cast must be congratulated for presenting this wonderful show.
