I really enjoyed this Ray Cooney play directed by Ann Ramm. It was very well cast, fast passed, and as always with New Forest Players the set was well thought out and just right for the play.
The play is set in a Doctors Common Room in St. Andrew’s Hospital, London, where Dr Mortimore (Chris Marsh) works and he is practicing his speech that he has to give later in the day, and this is where it all goes wrong. The play becomes an endless trail of lies, when an old girlfriend Jane Tate (Tina Fagan) who was a nurse at the hospital turns up to tell him he is the father to her son Leslie excellently played by (Jack Haberfield), who is now on the rampage to find the ‘Dr’ who’s his father.
Mortimore, can’t let his wife (Carol Catton) find out just yet so the lies start to get bigger he confides in his colleague Dr Bonney (Alan Whitty) to help him, the lies get more tangled with hilarious consequences, with everyone in the hospital getting draw into the web.
It’s a very funny play with lots of cameo roles from staff to Bill (John Langridge) the song full patient each having there funny moments as they get deeper evolved in the lies without knowing that’s what is happening. Lots of laughs, cross dressing and hilarity had by all. Everything ends with Dr Bonney becoming the ‘father’ to save Dr Mortimore. Toughly good evening enjoyed by audience and cast alike well done.
