IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY
DIRECTOR WILL TILLOTSON
Was this play a comedy or a farce, either description would be quite appropriate .Whatever one cares to call it was a very funny and outstanding production.
There were some brilliant performances, and not a weak link in the cast. Special mention must go to, particularly Shaun Donald, who was on stage from start to finish. He gave a great characterisation of Dr David Mortimore, and his comic capers and subterfuge to his wife Rosemary, well played by Rachel Denwood, was excellent. Marc Goodwin was superb as camp consultant Dr Hubert Bonney, he maintained a very high standard throughout the whole performance. There were no weak links in play, every part had been very well cast, Vanessa Turpin played a typical hospital Matron, very well, everything had to run smoothly, but in the case of this play, never did. Director Will Tillotson also played Sir Willoughby Drake, who could be described as a twopence halfpenny toff . Jonathan Lucas played Dr David’s long lost son very well, as did Becky Hardman as his old flame. Stuart Buchanan played Bill, and was in a wheelchair during the play. His wasn’t a large part, but he made the most of what he had with some superbly funny lines. Other people to mention are Aron Armstrong, Stuart Evans, Sarah Blaney and Allison Maxwell. All their parts very well played. Very well done to the whole company.
The technical side of the production worked very well. The single set looked good, lighting and sound were good, in fact it’s very difficult to find a negative comment about the play, so I wont attempt to. There was so many comings and goings during the performance, how the company kept it all on track is a great credit to every one of them. The play made for a very very enjoyable evening, well done to the whole company and crew, and as always the group hospitality was exemplary.
