Francis Durbridge’s ‘House Guest’ is a wonderful whodunnit set in the mansion of an actor and his family.
Nunthorpe Players latest offering saw the audience enthralled from start to finish as they, myself included, tried to figure out the impossible…..Whodunnit?!?
Director Tracy Legg had done a great job in the casting of this play. There was not one weak link anywhere however there are a couple of names I’d like to make special mention to. Alex Duncan who played the part of Stella Drury, the grief strickened mother of the boy who was kidnapped did not faulter at all in her performance. Hers was, for me, the standout performance of the night.
Julie Hobson as the straight faced Inspector Burford kept the audience on their toes throughout the performance, even when she turned nasty! Kelvin Witherspoon-Sudron gave a great performance as the out of work Actor, Robert Drury who was the one who had to perform all tasks set by the kidnappers in order to hopefully get his son back.
So many things cleverly inserted to try and put the audience off and it worked! Well, especially for me as I got it totally wrong at the end. It was not who I suspected at all but I loved the climax at the end with the final line being said by the mastermind followed by a black out. I won’t say ‘whodunnit’ though!
All involved should be very proud of this performance and I look forward to visiting your next show. Thank you for a great night’s entertainment.
