Set in the 1940`s in the Japanese village of Titipu , BCMS gave a great toe-tapping evening with a fantastic show `Hot Mikado`.
The singing and dancing were of the highest standard. With a simple but effective set, stunning costumes and superb orchestra under the leadership of David Wilson , this was without doubt a brilliant show.
It would be difficult to pick any single numbers as all were so good. Christian Brabin playing second trumpet player Nanki-Poo and also son of The Mikado was superb. He is in the village searching for his beloved Yum-Yum. His acting and singng were stunning as he looked for the delightful Yum-Yum, beautifully played by Louise Watson. I was astonished to learn that she had only taken over the part three weeks earlier. Had I not been told as I was leaving I would never nave known. You were brilliant.,
The other principals were all outstanding. Charlotte Unsworth ( Pitti Sing) gave a lovely performance with a great vocal range. Diane Simmons gave a powerful performance as Katisha from the moment she came on stage. The number `Alone and yet Alive` was outstanding.
Comedy came with the appearance of Ko-Ko well sung and acted by Philip May. `I`ve got a little list` was brought up to date with mentions of Simon Cowell and Celebrity Big Brother amongst others. Very funny. Patrick Unsworth gave us plenty of laughs as the multi talented with multi jobs, Pooh- Bah.
Tha rest of the strong line-up included Natalie Crompton ( Peep-Bo), Matthew Gavin (Pish- Tush) and David Hulme (The Mikado).
Well done everyone. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
