Played on a wonderful set of many stairs lit with coloured lights and a backing of star cloth and parasols, with a splendid orchestra tucked into the curve of the staircase, there unfolded the tale of the runaway son of the Mikado disguised as a musician. Nanki-Poo (Dom Moccia) loves Yum-Yum (Laura Crowther) but she is due to marry Ko-Ko (Paul Bennett) on the day he finds her again, so he decides to hang himself. Ko-Ko talks him out of that and they decide he can marry Yum-Yum but be beheaded after one month!!! Yum-Yum and her friends Pitti-Sing (Louise LeFevre) and Peep-Bo (Zoe Clarkson) support her, Pooh-Bah (Richard Brook) and Pish-Tush (Chris Comber) support Ko-Ko but are all horrified when Katisha (Sharon Whitehead) and the Mikado (Steve Redfern) arrive in town. But the Mikado sets everything right and some wonderful performances were given throughout. Gorgeous costumes and wigs and wonderful dancing made for a splendid show and congratulations go to everyone involved.
