Hook’s Revenge is a sequel to Peter Pan with many familiar characters such as Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy, Hook and the Lost Boys appearing in the pantomime. There were also some great new characters that we loved meeting.
Wendy (Regina Repton) opened the pantomime well with her beautiful clear voice and we were soon transported to Neverland where we met the entertaining lost boys. They all brought lots of energy to the show and looked like they were having the time of their lives messing around and fighting with the Neverlandees.
The wonderful dame - Nursie was performed by Mik Horvath, great comedy moments and fantastic interaction with the audience, keeping everyone on their toes!
Another funny character was Ozzy Fundee (Wayne Perry) who had a cracking Australian accent. He bounced off the other principals and his character worked really well.
Hook (Paul Mills) played a brilliant villain and was given lots of boos and hisses from the audience. Paul looked the part and made a great Captain Hook who we soon warmed too.
Peter Pan (Ciara Beighton) and Polly (Danni Stringer) both have lovely voices and executed their songs beautifully. Tinkerbell (Jessica Baird-Swinburn), Tiger Lily (Ellie Mallinson) Shaman (Jake Perry) and Chief Great Big Little Panther (Luke Jeffs) all deserve a mention for their great performances.
Two characters that really lit up the stage were Skull (Liz Woolley) and Bones (Karen Jones) a couple of trainee pirates. Liz and Karen brought so much energy every time they entered the stage. Their acting was awesome, keeping in role throughout with great characterisation and comedy timing.
Another scene stealer was the Crocodile, when they entered you weren’t quite sure what was going to happen next! There was great anticipation from the audience which always ending in laughter. The younger audience members enjoyed shouting out and loved seeing the crocodile. Many congratulations Lou Jenkins to play this great role with no lines and make such an impact!
The costumes for this pantomime were stunning. The dame wore outlandish dresses and wigs, Hook and Pan looked just how you imagined they would. Great colours throughout the ensemble, an awesome parrot, crocodile and beautiful mermaids!
Scene changes were very smooth. I particularly loved the ship set and the ships wheel. Colourful backdrops that enhanced the scenes.
The dancing was energetic and well drilled. Huge congratulations to the choreographer Sharon Stringer and to all the cast for rehearsing these numbers and executing them in such a professional manner.
Great lighting from Lee Hartshorn and clear sound from the Landau Forte technical staff.
All the musical numbers sounded great I loved Revolting Children and Revenge will be Mine. A really strong ensemble. Many congratulations to the Musical Director Lisa Mills.
I must mention the Front of House team who did an excellent job welcoming everyone, there was a buzz as we entered the college and the excitement was building as we sat down, thank you for the lovely warm welcome.
Many congratulations to the Directors Patricia Church and Angela Swift for producing a slick, hilarious, colourful pantomime. We look forward to seeing Caramba’s Revenge in June 2024.
