This really was a ‘youth production’ all the way. In that the 3 directors, the live band, the stage crew and of course, the whole cast were young people which of course, makes it a huge achievement in and of itself. The script was fascinating exploring, as you might expect from the title, how the enmity between Hook and Peter began, why the crocodile hated Hook, and how Peter learned to fly and vowed never to grow up. It was a fascinating and very interesting and engaging tale. I understand that there were over 35 young people involved in the production, which in and of itself bodes well for our hobby in the future as, of course, these young people learning their craft are the future of our wonderful hobby. There were some good confident principle characters, everyone looked the part, just remember to speak a little more slowly and a little louder so that all the audience can hear you.
I must offer my congratulations to Jenny Berry who designed and painted the set for Neverland which was absolutely fantastic, and I feel sure must have proved invaluable to the cast.
The three directors also took leading roles in the production, namely Peter Pan himself, Tiger Lily and Wendy, so set themselves a huge task from the word go. I can only imagine the difficulty of directing your own friends and colleagues and plotting moves and scene changes whilst at the same time learning a large part. So well done to all three of you. There were unfortunately a few memory lapses and some pregnant pauses but all in all the production moved along well. The energy and enthusiasm throughout, by cast & band, was palpable and you are all to be congratulated on that. I do hope that you all enjoyed it as much as you appeared to be?
I must also congratulate you all for keeping going and not being put off, despite some very unfortunate and unruly behaviour from a section of around 6 or 7 members of the audience, who at one stage were all competing with each other on their mobile phones!
Taken as a whole, well done to the whole group for taking on and bringing to the stage, with song, dance and some pretty amazing costumes a pre-cursor to a much loved and familiar tale and, of course, thank you for inviting me and for making me so welcome.
