Based on Han Christian Anderson`s, The Ugly Duckling, Honk is an ideal musical for a youth group and LEOS Youth Group certainly created a lively, colourful production in which the whole of the young cast deserve praise for their energy, enthusiasm, and the talent that shone through.

There were some very good performances, and leading the way was Jude Yellop as Ugly, our unfortunate `duckling`, an excellent portrayal.  Hannah Pettit as his mother Ida, gave us a stand out display, confident in every aspect, and vocally very good. Playing her husband Drake, Matthew McAuley gave excellent support, and Robert McAuley made the most of being The Cat, the villain of the piece.  Little cameos were in abundance, Finley McQuade as Greylag, and Grace Collishaw as Dot, with Jennifer Finlay as the Blizzard Soloist giving us lovely vocals. Evie Barry, Anna Green, Billy Stewart and Tommy Stewart were great as the Ducklings and Oscar Hungenholtz a wonderful overpowering Bullfrog, with Warts and All, one of the musical highlights. We had all sorts of characters, from a Turkey to Swans, Chickens, Birds and other animals, all well done by the chorus with effective dance routines.

With superb use of back projection, apt costumes, and great sound, this was a production the whole team should be very proud of.
