This society uses a pianist as accompaniment and this year Anthony Hunt played for HMS Pinafore with David Brocklehurst accompanying Trial by Jury. The hall was packed and extra seats had to be put out. Elaine Marsden had done a good job as MD and had worked the cast hard to make sure the harmonies sounded lovely.
Christine Taylor knows her stuff when it comes to G & S and I’m sure the Society will miss her as she informed me this is to be her last show. A great job on direction with good use of the space, entrances and exits and projection of voices.
The set looked great with super lighting, props and lovely costumes. The whole ensemble worked hard and produced nice harmonies and crowd scenes.
In Trial by Jury there were stellar performances from George Smith as Learned Judge and Kirsty Haugh as the Plaintiff. Lawrence Shoebridge put in a nice performance as the Defendant and Anthony Hunt (who accompanied in Pinafore excellently) was very commanding as the Counsel for the Plaintiff.
In Pinafore there were super performances and vocals from Mike Kennedy as Captain Corcoran and Janet Marshall as Josephine his daughter. Austin McKenna as Sir Joseph Porter and George Smith as Dick Deadeye who created a lot of laughter.
Lawrence Shoesmith as Ralph Rackstraw was very well played with some nice vocals and Andrea Marshall as Little Buttercup delivered a well rounded performance.
As always this society are very skilled at Gilbert & Sullivan and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Thank you all and it was lovely to see you all again.
