A well performed show staged by this very talented company. Ann Simpson’s debut as a producer was outstanding. She added two extra songs from Patience and Princess Ida, which worked very well. Mac Hammond (Sir Joseph Porter) led the company well with strong support from Ian Askew (Captain Corcoran) and Mel Boland (Buttercup). Karen Marie Lyon gave an outstanding performance as Josephine, the daughter of the Pinafore Captain, who falls in love for a humble sailor Ralph (Steve Parish). The chorus work was really well done and Musical Director Philippa Cruxton kept the orchestra together and kept the volume down so that you could hear every word from the stage area. The costumes made by Sue Crawford shone. Scenery was good but I was a bit surprised to see the SS American from ‘Anything Goes’ on stage. I did particularly enjoy the entrance of the Sisters, Cousins and the Aunts. They arrived on board a ‘barge’ and made full use of the central aisle by which the audience arrived.
