I was very interested to see Manx G & S Society move into the realms of Musical Comedy and they achieved this effortlessly. This lovely show by Cole Porter, based on the " Philadelphia Story" was a great film in 1956, starring many big names of the day and I was certainly looking forward to seeing how Manx G & S  would cope with it as a stage show. This very talented society made the transition with ease and they gave the sell out audience a performance to remember. As we settled into our seats I wondered if the members of the company and the audience realized how lucky they are to have such a beautiful theatre on their doorstep. I see many societies who have to perform in little church halls who would love the opportunity to have such a wonderful facility. The splendid curtains opened to an excellent set and Director Val Cowley and her production team must be congratulated on all the obvious attention to detail they have achieved. There was an abundance of talent on show and costumes, set dressers, lighting and sound all played their part in giving the audience a memorable evening. Val Cowley has again used all of her expertise to ensure that all on stage obtained the most from their particular characters. Gemma Varnom, as Tracy was simply superb. Her singing and acting would have graced any West End stage and I looked forward to her every entrance. Dandi Dancox as Dinah, Tracy's little sister, is certainly  one to look out for in future productions. At just 12 years old she made the role her own and certainly did not suffer from nerves. I loved the beautifully underplayed role of Bob Harrison as Seth, a small role played to perfection. The chorus were moved well by the Director using them to alter scenery, props etc. but I felt their diction, when singing, was lacking at times. This in no way marred the evening and I came away thinking how much the theatre going public of the Isle of Man must love having such a talented company in their midst. Thank you so much for a splendid evening.
