A lovely production by Pat Scully of a show well known from the film but rarely performed by amateurs. Emma Paine in her first lead role with KODS, having played mainly comedy parts previously, was a lovely “Tracey Lord” and I enjoyed her performance immensely. “Dexter”, Doug Forrester was a perfect partner, laid back, charming and a good voice too. “Uncle Willie”, veteran John Jones was a brilliant inebriate and gave an outstanding performance. It’s not easy to play drunk but not once did he look like he was acting. “Mike”, David Clarke and “Liz” Salli Hunt were a perfect pair as newspaper reporter and photographer and “Dinah”, Zailee Parmenter, Tracey’s little sister was a delight and no doubt more will be seen of her in future productions. Claire Hadland, “Mother Lord” was a perfect matriarch and still sings as well as ever. “George”, Matthew Tweedale made the most of an unsympathetic role and “Seth”, David Short completed the strong cast. Chorus dancing and movement were polished and well choreographed and the small orchestra produced the perfect backing for the show. Scenery was simple and very effective and scene changes unobtrusive. Costumes lighting and sound were of high standard and the whole show was an antidote to these austere times.
