This was a very good and enjoyable production from WADAMS Next Generation. It was a very lively show with excellent solos, chorus ensembles and dances.
The story is set in East High School, and relays the conflict between two school clubs. The basketball team and the drama club .Never the twain shall meet, until basketball star Troy Bolton, and new girl Gabriella Montez, fall for each other. It is then the conflict between drama and basketball begins.
The two leads were very well played by Andrew McMinn, as Troy and Hannah McLean as Gabriella. They both acted and sang their roles extremely well. They were very supported by brother and sister duo Sharpay and Ryan, played by Georgia Hunter and Josh Pattison respectively. Sharpay is the school drama queen. Trouble starts when Troy and Gabriella decide to audition for the school musical, much to the disgust of Sharpay and basketball coach Bolton. The big problem arises when the basketball championship is arranged at exactly the same time as the show auditions, and for Troy to fit them both in is no easy task. Like all good stories everyone, except Sharpay wins in the end. The game is won, and Troy and Gabriella are successful in their show auditions.
The set worked very well and the crew were very slick with their changes. Lighting and sound were both very good. The band were very well led by Mark. Choreography was excellent, congratulations to Adam and Aimee. Special mention must go to Director Daniel MacCreedy, for a very fine production, and to the young company who sang and danced their hearts out. The whole production, very well received by an enthusiastic audience.
