Hi-de-Hi - this stage adaptation of the hugely popular British TV series, which revisits the 1950's and Maplins Holiday Camp with its host of colourful characters was written by  Paul Carpenter, Ian Gower, David Croft, Jimmy Perry all renowned writers for the stage and the script reflects their skills.

The split stage set had been designed with a good sized thrust to extend the acting area especially for the staff meeting scenes.  The scenery was very well designed to suit the action - it appeared to be simple but a great deal of thought had gone into its design. The set dressing was excellent and in period.  The costumes were a delight.  everything was in character and period.

A delightful evening of nostalgia reflecting those ‘simple’ pleasures. A good pace was maintained throughout with everyone developing their characters well. The interaction between the various characters was a pleasure to watch;  for example between Jeffrey, sympathetically played by Paul Hughes and Gladys, very ably played by Julie MacDonald.  Helen Lewis, in the role of the chalet maid Peggy Ollerenshaw grew in the part during the show and all the cast were drawn to her - partly scriptwriting and partly her portrayal of the dippy girl!  There was not a weak link in the whole cast and the diretor, Lesley Nicholls is to be congratulated on bringing this team together to produce such a good production.  Congratulations to everyone involved on a splendid evening’s entertainment.
