This was a thoroughly enjoyable show, well cast with good sets, lighting and sound, the period costumes were excellent except for one scene where the magic got lost with short skirts.

The orchestra was ably conducted by the Musical Director, Michael J Scott, who got the balance between musicians and singers throughout the show absolutely right.

The choreography by Joanna Milbourne was simple but effective and appropriate to the era of the story.

Helen Mayne as always directed a fantastic show, the casting of Debbie Allen as the lead was absolutely right she was “Dolly” in every way, the humour and pathos were equally portrayed and her musical numbers were superb.

Emma Johnson as Eileen Molloy and Laura Hobley as Minnie Fay were excellent supporting actresses and Karis Finnigan as Ermingard had the audience in her hands as she cried and cried.

Horace Vandergelder played by Jeff Burgess, Cornelius Hackle by Nick Murison and Joe Moore as Ambrose Kemper were so right for their roles and all performed well, but for me Seb Singh as Barnaby Tucker stole the show, his diction, timing and expressions were simply great.

The supporting cast did just that and gave the show warmth and depth so that you were taken into the scenes with them.

What a good show, such a pity there were not more bums on seats it was a treat missed by so many.

A word for the front of house team, they were welcoming, organised and friendly and added to pleasure of the evening, thank you very much.
