Another great success and sell-out, and the group deserves the support for the enjoyment shared with audiences and company. When a show is devised, written and directed especially for the company, as known, and tailored to showcase the talents of the various members, this capitalises on every nuance and star-quality and accentuates the talent shown within the group, and Ralph Wiggins has this set up to a T, and how we in the audience enjoy this friendship and ambience and great entertainment. ‘A group of friends’ is how the company is described who enjoy their Thursday evenings, but how well this is realised in the performance. Two excellent sets constructed and painted of the Promenade Deck of S.S.Majestic and the Drawing Room of the Tudor Fellowes Hall, the costumes a kaleidoscope of colour and rure Twenties styles. A mix of ideas from shows into a different story, an excellent choice of songs and music from different periods, all well performed (lovely not to see throat mikes), the band was good, and the energy and style of all the dancing performed as one, all made such a good evening. Some lovely characters with Polly and the dance-troupe girls, Quentin and Teddy as show entrepreneurs, the Purser with that walk, the Handy Man with the mallet and standard lamp, ‘Fingers’ Duval with his moll ‘Safecracker’ Sal with their own agenda, plus ‘detective’ Ivy on the case in disguise and not so good as a maid, the stately home owners Sir Hector (the guardian) and eccentric Lady Gwendoline, and as for Pelham the Butler, well words fail me and loved the ‘wiglet business’ and the look and the stately walk : all these themes and scenes and characters reminiscent of ‘Anything Goes’ mixed with ‘Me and my Girl’, and ‘42nd Street’, and ‘Mack and Mabel’, and ‘Poirot’, the Charleston and a bit of Vaudeville; a great mix and fun for all, and how very polished and stylish, really an excellent evening out.
