~~I love the Ringwood Summer Show as it’s always fun. The audience is split into three groups and each watch the three shows during the course of the evening. This year’s show was called Heaven’s Above! Gods, Demons & Angels.
We were guided by our host Andy Steeds who kept up the pace and got the audience warmed up. The three sections – Gods (director Abbie Guy, musical director Stuart Darling), Demons (director Lucie Evans, musical director Adam Tuffrey) and Angels (director Hazel Burgess, musical director Jonathan Spratt) – are all full of energy and extremely well choreographed, with some great singing, acting, some good costumes & clever sets.
We first saw Angels, this was very cleverly done with Hells Angels and bike handles to represent the motor bike which was very clever. Each time one of them died a recurring chorus of One More Angel In Heaven provided the inevitable conclusion, and they soon all had their own sets of wings – there were some great song’s in this section and I very much liked a very novel version of Les Misérables’ Do You Hear The People Sing.
We then went on to see Mount Olympus, where the Gods and Goddesses were living their lives. They realised that the humans had stopped believing in them so they have to try to put it right. This was a very lively section very colourful and simple but effective set. Great singing and you could see everyone was enjoying themselves.
We went on to see the Demons, set in an office with different weird characters. This section was fun also with some great songs especially Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist and The Internet Is For Porn, both from Avenue Q, one of our favourite shows, but the funniest for me was the Tom Lehrer song, Poisoning Pigeons In The Park, it was so funny and everyone enjoyed it.
There is a lot of hard work both on and off stage that goes into this type of show to ensure they all run smoothly and the front of house staff should also have a mention keeping us all supplied with lots of lovely food. Well done one and all. Thank you.
