After seeing this society’s’ sell out production of ‘Footloose’ last year, I was really looking forward to seeing KAOS enthusiastic younger members in action again in one of the first amateur showings in the UK of this musical, which was based on the 1970’s long running television series about teenage life in the 1950’s. Unfortunately it let them down, as it was based on just one episode which was called ‘Fonzy Loves Pinky’ and even though the talented cast worked their socks off in the musical numbers and routines and were accompanied by an excellent, if rather loud band, unfortunately not much of the music or the plot was memorable. In the role of the super cool Fonzie was Mark Allen, who mimicked Henry Winkler’s character well and as his girlfriend Pinky, Carolyn Ellis made a really impressive entrance, singing the raunchy ‘The Pink is in Town’. Many of the series characters were there, Richie, Potsie, Ralph Malph and Joanie & Chachi, but the plot was trivial and even experienced players Julian Freeman & Katrina Wood as the parents Mr & Mrs Cunningham, had nothing much to work on. Nevertheless, as with any other show, the production team must have spent many hours getting the cast up to the performance level we saw tonight and they, along with the hardworking cast and the techies who provided the excellent lighting and sound effects, must be congratulated on what they had achieved.
