The story of Hansel and Gretel is a famous, if dark one, about a young brother and sister kidnapped by a cannibalistic witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and confectionery.

The script written by the Directors contained all the elements of traditional family panto. This colourful and lively pantomime was well cast with all the usual characters that you would expect to find in this story.

George Mingay and Ngaire Gape gave excellent performances as Handel & Gretel. The panto dame, played by Aled Jones-Pritchard gave us a great performance, A strong performance from Romy O’Hara as the Fairy whilst, in contrast, Lisa Grice gave a dark and sinister performance as the Witch. The comedy elements fell to Lewis Vinnicombe and Gwen Bevan who more than did their part in promoting the fun. There were also some strong performances form Tom Price, Richard Salisbury and Lauren Good. The principals were well supported by a large young chorus who did a good job and who should be encouraged as they are the future of live theatre.

The standard of the dancing and singing was a credit to the production team and the entire cast worked very hard, with enthusiasm, much to the delight of an audience of mixed ages.

The sets, including the backcloths, were fine and the stage management was efficient keeping the show moving throughout. The costumes were lovely and certainly added to the visual effect as indeed did the lighting.

Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for a lovely warm welcome.
