I was very interested to see this revised edition of Half a Sixpence with many new songs and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The energy and enthusiasm was tremendous and I was exhausted just watching on this very warm evening. Alison Thornton, Director ensured the pace was breathtaking from the very beginning, so important in this particular show and she certainly brought out the best from the very talented performers. The shop boys and girls were delightful each a very different character in their own right and all played with joyful abandonment. The part of Kipps is a very demanding role, seldom off stage and so many songs to perform. Phil Swift excelled in the part. He understood the character and carried the show from beginning to end. He has a fine singing voice and his diction was excellent. I would have preferred a little more quality and less volume in his romantic numbers but overall it was a splendid performance. Anne, Gennie Daniels was a perfect foil for Kipps and looked lovely and sang beautifully. I always love to see Paula Curtis on stage. Her performance as Mrs Walsingham was a little gem. Elaine Morrison, Choreographer has again excelled. This show has some wonderful numbers for the choreographer to work with and Elaine has certainly made the most of the opportunity. The members of the orchestra under the direction of Helen Harrison were outstanding, it is such a pleasure to see a Musical Director so obviously enjoying herself, a performance in itself. It would be remiss of me not to mention the Wardrobe department. The overall effect was just what this show needs. Another great success for this very talented company. Thank you for your very warm welcome.
