Oh how I wished that I was young (and fit) enough to have been in this fast and exciting show. From start to finish it rocked with amazing dance routines and superb singing.
Megan Elsegood as Tracy Turnbull was in complete command of her part. She was totally convincing in her portrayal of a young woman determined to bring about the integration of black people into a popular dance show. Richard Billings as Tracy's mum Edna brought humour and sympathy to the part. Her, or should it be his, song with husband Wilbur, played by the talented Peter Whitley, was a delight to listen to.
Tracy's friend Penny (Katie Melia) was a real scene stealer. Her over the top performance worked so well and was a joy to watch.
Heartthrob Link Larkin (Timothy Gough) gave a polished performance as did Chris Knight (Seaweed J Stubbs).
There were strong performances from Susan Wilcock (Velma Von Tussle) and her daughter Amber played by Lizzie Nunn a young performer to watch out for.
Pat Belle as Motormouth Maybelle gave one of the best performances I have seen from her and her rich mellow singing voice was beautiful to listen to.
There was a very strong supporting cast and company who all added to the quality of the show. They were accompanied by a vibrant orchestra under the direction of Jim Lunt.
The sets were simple and colourful and the props were quite ingenious although not always in working order. The colourful costumes were excellent and added greatly to the overall picture.
This was a real fun evening and well deserving of the standing ovation from the capacity audience.
