Carpet Trades Musical Theatre Company- Guys & Dolls

This famous Musical was given a shake down and came up fresh as a daisy. The Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser first aired on Broadway sixty three years ago, have well stood the test of time. The snappy opening number Fugue For Tin Horns performed and sung by a trio of gamblers launches the first act and with another ten well known numbers to follow in the first act and eight in the second act were all well sung and performed by principals and company. The principals Sarah Richards (Sarah Brown) and Doug Forrester (Sky) were well matched. The plum role of course is Miss Adelaide (Wendy Richards) who was excellent and partnered by Nathan (Dave Clarke) brought out all the comedy in their roles. The Hot Box girls were certainly hot and their dance routines were sexy and raunchily performed much to the delight of the audience. Choreographers Wendy Richards and Kathryn Knight must have been well pleased with the performance of their routines. A poignant ‘More I Cannot Wish You’ sung by Arvide (Dave Short} and the always a show stopper ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’ by Nicely (Chris Paine) and Company were outstanding. Pat Powell’s (Bag Lady) little cameo was brilliant. The numerous scene changes were accomplished mainly in the dark and were efficiently and silently carried out. The four strong band offstage was excellent and the whole performance put a smile on the audience’s faces.
