This production of Guys and Dolls by Crigglestone Theatre Company was a most entertaining one that was blessed by very strong casting in all the leading roles. The parts of Sarah Brown (Victoria Wilkinson) and Sky Masterson (Richard Longbottom) were acted and sung in great style and conviction. Mike Atkinson was a most likeable Nathan Detroit not sure if he wanted to marry Miss Adelaide or not but found much laughter in the role. Miss Adelaide (Pippa Slater) gave a very confident performance if perhaps a little strong in the vocal sections on this occasion. Dan Senior (Benny Southstreet) Darren Gledhill (Rusty Charlie) and Andrew Crawshaw (Harry The Horse) all gave fine back up to Nathan but without a doubt the star of the production was Rob Atkinson (Nicely Nicely Johnson) he gave us a master class in how to play this part, he just gets better evey time he plays it. The choreography by Sarah Hardy and Vicky Maw was excellent especially in The Crapshooters Dance. The fine set with a super designed New York scene was brilliant. The production would have been enhanced greatly with proper gangster suits and better mink stoles for the 'Take Back Your Mink' number. Unfortunately the sound system was a little out of tune on the night I attended but I am sure this was a temporary fault. I am sure that Marie Collins can be well satisfied with her first major production as director.
