Take thirty four songs, 90 young people, 9 musicians, 7 technicians, and a background crew too numerous to mention and you have a company that have put together a superb modern concert. This youth company for their spring production worked hard to give their capacity audience an evening of singing and dancing to be remembered for a long time.
They put together a programme chosen by the members of the cast which showed us their talent put together with some modern dancing, colourful costumes, lighting designed by the members and a lot of hard work. They showed us in this production entitled Growing Up that the future of amateur theatre is in good hands. The construction of the programme showed to the audience that children growing up don’t have an easy life but that it is fun all the way. Taking items from musicals such as Matilda, The Worst Witch, Tick Tick Boom, Hannah Montana, Grease and a host of other shows. 28 Musical shows made up the bulk of the show along with a selection of other modern songs.
It was great to hear a lot of modern songs, some of which I had never heard, sung with the gusto of young voices and not a selection of well known classics that were not necessarily written for young voices. The production team of Marc Mackinnon, (Director) Susan French, (Vocal Coach) James McCutcheon, (Musical Director) Fiona Jackson, (Choreographer) gave a very modern slant and style to the whole evening.
Congratulations to one and all for a fantastic night out.
