Grease was originally written for the stage in 1971 but it is the 1978 film version with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John that most people are familiar with. There are so many super characters in this show.

From the opening number ‘Grease Is the Word’ right through to the closing number, it was good to hear this group of young people both entertaining the audience and also enjoying themselves, the show was full of energy from the start.

I enjoyed Mathilda Kenny as Sandy, she showed the difference between innocence and naivety in the first half, and the more confident Sandy in the second half and she most certainly pulled off the transformation in her song, ‘You’re the  One That I Want’, I also enjoyed ‘Hopelessly Devoted’. Danny played by Henry Chatfield was well played, he worked well with Mathilda, they were well suited and both vocally strong, also they proved a good foil for each other. I liked Kira Hayes as Rizzo, she was feisty and sympathetic, and was unsure what life has in store, she was ideal in the part and sang well. Catherine Andrews gave a great cameo performance as Teen Angel. All the cast worked very hard from the Burger Palace Boys, the Pink Ladies, Cheerleaders, and all of the chorus.

The ‘Grease Lightning’ number had lots of the wow factor in it, with the super red car playing centre stage. There was also some good choreographed numbers in the show. Good scenery, colourful costumes all added to the production. I had a great night out at the Forum and it was evident that everyone was having a good time. Also, I noticed faces missing, but lots of new young faces for the future.

Thank you for the memories I will always have of you, and all good wishes for the years ahead..
