The start to this splendid production was film credits cleverly showing the cast via photos and titles - an excellent way of introducing the audience to the cast. After hours of dance rehearsals they really did a superb show in many ways. They introduced a Triumph car on the stage [the iconic 'Greased Lightning'].
There were many excellent performances, in the lead Morgan Burgess played Danny and opposite him Phoebe McArthur as Sandy with superb vocals and acting. With the story placed in or around Rydell High School it was pleasing to see the entire cast were yougsters and the type of show was ideally suited to their talents.
As most schools have sub-factions, we did here; There were the T-Birds - the 'cool' kids - of Jason Curia (Kenickie) , Jonny Friesan (Doody), Joseph Arnott (Roger) and Ben Kelly (Sonny) - each played their roles very well. Then we had the Pink Ladies Rizzo was well played by Lauryn McLaughlin, Frenchy by Olivia Dell-Price. Marty was played by Evie Kerr, playing her first leading role , she never stopped acting. Jan was again excellently played by Rachel Egan, unfortunately this will be her last performance before going to Uni, she will be greatly missed. They were very well supported by the large enthusiastic cast ranging from 8yrs to 17yrs.
The many dance routines were all very well rehearsed. Other excellent performances were Ella Murton who played Patty, really 'cheeky' she was. William Dell-Price played the pipe smoking Eugene very well, a cameo role but he put a lot into it. The show really brought our school days back with little romances, falling out and finding someone else and in the end all getting back together. The singing was excellent throughout. It was very hard not to think that you were watching youngsters, the quality of the acting was really excellent and many shows with adults performing would have to really pull out all the stops to beat this show. The story was evident throughout the entire show. Emma Greenhalgh did a first class job of the choreography after many months of hard work. Jeremy Harbottle did a superb job in producing some excellent singing from the entire group. The one person who deserves all the credit for directing such an enthusiastic group of youngsters is Dan Brookes, thanks also must go to the many Parents who provided the lovely costumes and for the many hours spent caring for the children. Very well done CRASH BANG WALLOP.
