Set in California in 1959 this musical started life as a film and quickly became a success. It shows the exploits of the final year students of Rydell High School and includes many songs which went on to become hits.
Bursting with energy and enthusiasm throughout, and creating a real feel good factor, this was an enjoyable production from LEOS.
George Groom and Lydia Thacker, as Danny and Sandy were well suited, both vocally strong, and in acting abilities proved a good foil for each other. Zach Foster as Kenickie, and George Mercer as Doody, gave good accounts, both with excellent stage presence. Along with Lewis Haycock as Sonny, and Jack Draper as Roger, who completed the team known as the T Birds. I liked Emily Corner as Rizzo, feisty and sympathetic, unsure of what life has in store, she was excellent. Karen Woodhead as Frenchy, along with Rachelle Bragg as Marty, and Katie MacDonald as Jan, all performed their roles with great credit. Rob Chilton gave a super cameo role as the nerdish outcast Eugene, maintaining his character with great discipline.
The choreography was well drilled, and the whole company obviously enjoyed performing this iconic musical. The precision and energy showed was a major factor to making this a very entertaining presentation.
