Our Lady Star of the Sea Amateur Youth Theatre once again gave us a night to remember with their vibrant and enthusiastic performance of “ Grease”. It was obvious that all on stage were enjoying this hit show from a time when they were not even born. Stage settings, lighting, props and costumes played their part in  recreating the atmosphere of 50’s California.  One of the things I love about any youth production is the exuberance of the young people who put we oldies to shame with their total “joie de vivre”. They are completely immersed in what they are performing and this is what makes them so special. As no one has to audition to be in this company it gives an opportunity to youngsters of all levels of talent and Michelle Cuffe is to be congratulated on encouraging all  to achieve their potential. I remember the 50’s as though it were yesterday and this very talented group brought back some very happy memories. Owen Broughton (Danny) and Grace Robson (Sandy)  gave very polished and entertaining performances, two very talented actors who I have watched improve with every show in which they have been involved.  Lucy Ella Smith is to be congratulated on choreographing some excellent routines and M.D. Len Hampson obviously enjoyed playing the music of the period. Michelle Cuffe has succeeded in producing yet another successful and very enjoyable show. I have been told that sadly, this is to be the “finale” for this Youth Society and I would like to put on record a vote of thanks to all involved over the past eighteen years. Jeanette Appleton and Michelle Cuffe have given many youngsters their first taste of this wonderful hobby of ours and who knows what exciting futures may be in store for  some of their protégés, in the Professional Theatre? Congratulations to all involved with this society from inception and who knows what will happen in the future? A “Phoenix” from the ashes?
