It was lovely to visit BROS again to see my first adult performance of Grease, as I’d only seen a junior version prior to this and it is many years since I saw the film. I have to say I wasn’t disappointed as this was a cracking good show. All the principals were well cast in their parts, Stuart Frank as Kenickie, Jason Walby as Doody, Joe Goode as Roger, and Adam Collins as Sonny made convincing ‘T Birds’ and they were ably supported by the ‘Pink Ladies’, Chloe Wren as Frenchy, Abigail-Ester Knight as Rizzo, Caroline Bennett as Marty and Vikki Strachan as Jan, The interplay between these characters was very good. A special mention should go to Emma Wilson as Sandy who played her part as the naive innocent newcomer with great conviction and Paul Clements who performed the part of Danny brilliantly. All the smaller parts were well played especially school wimp Eugene delightfully portrayed by Isaac Lewis who really got inside the role. The classic songs were well performed especially ‘Hopelessly Devoted’, ‘Greased Lightening’ and my favourite ‘Worse Things I Could Do’ but, to be honest, they were all well performed and the ensembles were very well choreographed. Technically the scenery and lighting were adequate, the costumes were correct for the period and I loved the cars and the way they were used in so many different scenes. My congratulations go to Matt and his orchestra and the other Matt the sound technician for playing this lively music and still managing to ensure that it never overpowered the performers on stage. In fact my congratulations go to the whole society for staging such a demanding production.
