All change on the front line at Codys with a new production team and the added pressure of high expectations from their previous successes.
Director Lizzy Oakes hit the floor running with this production and had every last detail taken care of. She made it funnier, wittier and put a very maginative style on the production. The line of principal characters were ideally cast from the highly experienced to the novice performer. All of who stepped up to the mark and delivered, once again, a first class production.
Ben Cupit as Danny Zuko, was confident and cock sure and delivered a brilliant performance. Ben is a seasoned performer and tackles every given role with an astounding amount of talent. Ben is true inspiration to all the young performers and Cody’s and indeed his mentors. On behalf of NODA , I wish you the very best of luck at Arts Ed, you deserve every success Ben.
In the role of Sandy was Hannah Philips. Hannah conveyed the confused innocence of Sandy well and delivered some really lovely vocals.
Celia Dick as Rizzo was perfectly cast, oozing attitude in every scene and played well opposite Joe Cholmondley as Kenickie who did a sterling job.
Lauren Gibbon gave an outstanding portyal of the ‘always hungry’ Jan and with perfect comic timing. Frenchy was played by Pheobe Williams who did a great job. Sian Bowan was confident on the role of Marty. That sense of friendship really came accross with a strong bond between all the girls which was so lovely to see.
Nick Gartland showed us his versitilty when it comes to character acting and stole the show with ‘Magic Changes’. It was even better than all the doody’s I’ve heard over the years on the professional tours.
Garion Frith as Roger was just great along with mooning Chris Collier as Sonny. The Tbirds had all developed a great on stage relationship with bang on banter and some hilarious delivery.
Daniel Richter as always did a fine job, he did a cracking Vince Fontain and his talent was well used throughout the production.
The choreography was fresh, stylised and energetic fitting the era perfectly. Every number was well spaced and executed brilliantly and the most important thing – everyone looked like they were having terrific fun!
The set looked amazing and was complimented with fabulous lighting and mixed with a good set of costumes it made for quite a spectacle of a show – I’m becoming to expect no less! Congratulations once again Cody’s.
