Beverley Musical Theatre’s production of Grease at Hull Truck Theatre is a bright, energetic and crowd-pleasing revival that leans confidently into the show's enduring appeal. Packed with recognisable songs, lively ensemble work and plenty of 1950s attitude, this group have captured the spirit of the classic musical while delivering an evening of uncomplicated fun. And what a way to head in to the societys centenary year.

The production embraces everything audiences tend to love about Grease: the nostalgia, the swagger, the romance and, of course, the hit-filled score played to perfection under the guidance of Hanna Hughes and her band of hughly tallented Musicians.

The Choreography was Classic and Rebecca Kingston allowed everyone to shine with material that met everyone’s skill set so a huge hat off as that is not an easy achievement. Formations where tight and looked great. Gold Star award.

Georgia Kingston and Martyn Payne played Danny and Sandy brilliantly and the characters where believable and the chemistry on stage showed.

Another couple were of course Rizzo played by Sarah Hurst and Kenickie Played by Adam Sperring, who brought the Drama and lust to the performance, all the audience understood the fire between them.

Lots of standout moments Mooning with Mike Wells Playing Roger and Sarah Hursts rendition of There are worst things I can do, sung with such emotion you believed every word.

What works best here is the production’s sense of momentum. Grease only really succeeds when it moves with confidence, and Beverley Musical Theatre seem to understand that. The show needs colour, rhythm and a cast willing to throw themselves fully into its heightened style, and this production appears built around exactly those strengths. Numbers such as Summer NightsGreased Lightnin Sung by Adam Spearing had the audience up on their feet'Hopelessly Devoted to You and You're The One That I Want are already doing a great deal of heavy lifting in terms of audience goodwill, but a successful company still has to earn them in performance. Here and boy did they ever.

Set and Sound Where on point well done to all, Special mention for the costumes goes to Laura Cox, Everyone looked amazing from the start to the finish.

If the goal of Grease is to send an audience out smiling, humming the songs and craving one more burst of hand-jiving nostalgia, then Beverley Musical Theatre’s production hits the mark.
