Sitting in a cold Lochgelly Centre on a Sunday afternoon we were soon warmed-up by the energy and enthusiasm of this young but talented company. Costumes, set and lighting added to the colour and warmth of the production.

From the opening number, Grease, we were treated to a well directed and choreographed performance. Dealing with a large number of young people on stage can be challenging but it never ended up with people just standing in lines. The dance moves were well rehearsed especially in the hand-jive scene. Grease has many very recognisable songs which were performed confidently by all the principals. Special mention should go to Lauren Hay as Sandy. She should be particularly proud of her rendition of Hopelessly Devoted to You, sitting alone on the stage. At other times she was ably supported by all the Pink Ladies who in turn performed their own songs with understanding. This show does deal with some difficult topics which the cast handled well. Joseph Paton as Danny Zuko gave his own solo performance of Sandy letting the audience know how heartbroken he was. As is often the case in youth companies at the moment there were not a lot of boys on stage but those that were and those that had been cast as the Burger Palace Boys did a great job.

Well done for a great show and from an audience perspective a Sunday matinée seemed to be a good idea if audience numbers are anything to go by. Just a shame the centre hadn’t switched on their heating earlier!
