I have only previously seen Goodnight Mr Tom as a film and so this was a first for me .
Such a poignant tale .
Chris Ellis as Tom Oakley delivered a superb performance . His slow transformation from grumpy old man to a sensitive man with a very sad past was very believable . William Bain and Charlie Prangle were perfect in their demanding roles - both challenging parts . The two unlikely friends bounced off each other perfectly .
Initially I was unsure about Nada Bruenner-Brengo and her puppet dog . However , very soon into the play she became almost invisible and I could only see the adorable Sammy .
There are a few points I would like to raise :
* The space given to Mrs Beeche's home could have been much smaller as it was only used for a short scene . This would have allowed additional space for the majority of the play .
* I was confused by the use of the door into Tom's house . There was inconsistency on entrances and exits .
* And a small point - William getting out of bed with his socks and boots on !
The remaining cast/ ensemble contributed well to the overall delivery , although on occasions I found it difficult to hear some of the dialogue .
I was particularly impressed by the lighting and direction of Zacs death .
All in all a most enjoyable play delivered with humour and sensitivity . Congratulations .
