Before a full house Jarrow Musical Theatre Company once again delivered a fine night’s entertainment with their production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They really throw everything into their art and this performance, under the direction of Michelle Coulson, was full to overflowing with all that you would wish for from a pantomime.
Based on the Fairy Tale of the same name this version brings additional characters and has Goldilocks, her brother Barney, and her mother Ma Barnaby running a family circus whilst still retaining the theme of the cottage in the woods and the porridge, beds and chairs. There was also the hero and the villain, Antonio and Baron Von Trappen, played in true panto style by Daniel Gibson and Grayson Wood respectively, the heroine, Goldilocks, played by Frances Wood whose singing continues to be a delight to hear, and of course The Dame (Ma Barnaby) portrayed by Lawrence Clark who once again threw himself ,sometimes literally, into the role with his usual comedic presence.
The other Principals in the show also made telling contributions to its success. Jill Reay portrayed the hapless and not too bright brother Barney in fine style, and her interaction with the audience made them feel part of the show, Terry Connolly, as Mayor Zeedotes, Lana Wood, as his lovelorn daughter Penelope, Annette Morris, as Romany Rose, and Darren Dyson and Luke Carr as the useless henchmen Dunn and Dusted. Of course one cannot forget the Three Bears themselves in the shape of Neil Hindson (Daddy), Helen Bell (Mammy) and Mia Thompson (Baby)
There was a small but effective chorus line-up, dancing troupe and scenery, lighting, and costumes that gave it the final touch
