It always helps to have a good script for pantos and this one was no exception.  It gave the cast some good material to work with and I thought that, whilst I would prefer live music, the backing tracks used were modern and right for both the cast and the appreciative audience.  They didn’t go on too long either.

Continuing to make improvements to the Floral Hall, the society this time introduced their new lighting rig which was also well used.

Set in a circus the show opened with an excellent Jake Baines as Joey Whizzbang the Clown.  Getting us all on his side straight away he had a good rapport with the audience and his fellow actors.  David Cameron was the baddie, Benjamin Black, and was suitably nasty and we had a very powerful performance from Mollie Thompson as Ronnie the Ringmaster who falls for Goldilocks who was nicely played by Freya Chaytor, although at times it was difficult to hear her but she wasn’t helped by an intermittent mike.

I really enjoyed Phil Wilson as Belinda, the fairy character, and, of course, you can never ignore Hornsea’s resident dame, Ian Thompson.  The three bears were also very well performed.

A fairly large chorus which integrated a good number of the society’s youngsters was enthusiastic and moved and sang well, the choreography being at it’s usual high standard.  The costumes were very colourful as always.

Holidaymakers and locals alike will have really enjoyed their evening.
