This was my first time attending a pantomime adaptation of the classic fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the synopsis suggested that the audience could expect an exciting performance, enhanced by several unexpected twists throughout the storyline. On this occasion I attended with my two granddaughters age 8 and 10 years respectively, I must add they were completely entranced throughout the performance leading to a lengthy debrief regarding  their favourite musical numbers and obviously the many different characters on stage.

As always, the large stage was absolutely full of talented young performers who demonstrated their craft and were clearly, loving every moment. It was evident that the experienced production team had made thoughtful casting decisions. I observed several familiar faces whose confidence has notably developed, as well as new members to BYT. The large Ensemble were super. Each individual had their part to play, ensuring the overall success of the production.

Joe Taylor played the larger-than-life Nora Bone, he was hilarious throughout. Livvy Owen was the lovely Goldilocks, not so sweet when visiting the bears cottage! Gorgeous George was played well by Josh Hine. Baddie Ivor Blackheart (Jack Goode) received the appropriate boos on his every appearance, whilst Colin the clown (Gethin Randerson) was great when engaging with the audience, encouraging participation on his every entrance. I loved Daisy Wright as Madame Seyonce. Every pantomime has its fairy, and, on this occasion, Bobbi Morrison was Lily Of The Valley. The Three bears were played by Megan Allsop (Daddy) Sophie Ashford (Mommy) and Jessie Butler (Baby). Not wishing to mention every named cast member, as I’m sure to leave someone out everyone really pulled out all the stops to give the audience a wonderful, memorable, entertaining visit to the theatre. I enjoyed ‘I Got a Feeling’, ‘ No Business Like Show Business’, ‘One Way or Another’, ‘I Put a Spell on You’, and I admit, joined in with ‘Come Follow The Band’.

The performances were enhanced by expert lighting, vibrant sound, and stunningly colourful costumes, with the behind-the-scenes team playing a crucial supporting role. I also personally appreciate the adjustment made to the comprehensive program. Congratulations to everyone involved in the production. BYT certainly have every reason to celebrate.
