Based on the Gospel of St. Matthew, ‘Godspell’ not only follows a series of lessons and parables, through stories song and dance, it demonstrates how forming communities can create friendships and with the importance of love, understanding, compassion and forgiveness you can learn from listening.

Leading from the front was Marcus DeLorenzo as ‘Jesus’ who gave a completely confident opening night performance in good voice and with great style. J’Dunn Gormley (‘John Baptist’ / ‘Judas’) also gave a strong performance in support throughout and I particularly liked their Act 1 number together ‘All For The Best’.

But every musical number is potentially a winner and in that department the Players never failed to please. Whilst many of the individuals in the cast headed various numbers, each was enriched by the support from the cast, who remained engaged with the action in each scene, as well as in song and movement.

The 5 piece band was well controlled and placed behind an effective wire mesh screen at the rear of the stage, allowing space for the performers to enter from the audience and this created a nice atmosphere. The screen was used to great effect in the final ‘death’ scene.

Sound, lighting and costumes all blended in well and Casey Benson and Jude Sanderson are to be congratulated on their debut as Directors, along will all involved in staging this production.

Thank you for your usual warm welcome and I look forward to the next production of ‘Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood’ in February 2019.
