The city’s Scouts were back again this year with their own special brand of entertainment in this year’s Gang Show”. The big musical stage numbers are there as are the comedy sketches, but it is sad to see that the Gang numbers appearing on stage, this year, are down but, that said, this cast all do their excellent best giving their everything when they appear on stage. Soon we were off with a rousing Opening Show number with the Gang looking immaculate in their white GS uniforms and red neckers. Then came the very young ones – the Beavers – in their number, singing songs their granny taught them – in other words – Dundee songs. The young, cheeky-faced Beavers soon got their audience into a happy mood when they asked the audience all to stand and perform one of the songs with them! From my childhood, I know it as the Hokey Cokey but, hey, there we were all in the auditorium doing the live actions! This year’s big highlights were “Tonight’s The Night”, a tribute to Rod Stewart; “Reader Road”, which we aficionados of Ralph Reader songs happily sang along to. “Sleepy Days” found everyone in pyjamas singing appropriate bedtime songs, and then there was a fabulous “Come To The Cabaret” in which the senior cast members sang and danced their way through a Kander and Ebb music selection. Comedy is another feature of a Gang Show and we had three Dundee wifies setting off on a cruise of a lifetime from the city; a Scout writing home to his Mum with the “funny” events which happened at Scout Camp. Another favourite was the selection of songs from 80’s musicals with “Cats”, “Barnum”, and “Phantom” among them. From Rock Anthems to Country and Western – all added to the evening’s entertainment. And we can’t forget to mention the young Cubs whose comedy took us back to Shakespearean times. In fact, all the Gang performed well and sang out lustily as they brought this year’s show to the stage.
