This was the Gang Show and what an amazing, dazzling Gang it was.
As the evening unfolded we were treated to a wonderful cross section of theatrical genres including dance, musical theatre, farce, comedy and pantomime. The ‘Awesome Opening’ got the show off to a bright, vibrant, confident start and immediately convinced us that we were indeed going to enjoy an awesome evening and we were not disappointed.
There were so many memorable moments throughout this fantastic programme with first class choreography and singing by both the adult and the delightful junior gang. The lively reindeer in ‘Snow Tales’ and the brownies in ‘Girls Party!’ oozed enthusiasm and vitality and were obviously having an absolute ball .
The standard of solo singing was particularly high this year. The young Michael Jackson was most convincing while the young lady who sang ‘Man in the Mirror ’was powerful and really made us sit up and listen. The ‘NewYork Story’ section was absolutely captivating starting with a strong solo performance which led into an equally strong duet from ‘Once’ which cleverly developed into an instrumental ensemble and dancing which sympathetically blended well with the song.
‘Carousel’ was another winner again starting off with an impressive solo male performance and showcasing the fun ,skills, and acrobatics these youngsters brought to the circus. ‘Modern World’ was a stirring section with strong ensemble singing and a marvellous ’Hallelujah’ performed by a young man who displayed power and emotion rarely found in one so young.
The big production numbers were all very well performed and were interspersed with some very witty sketches including the cleverly written and well executed ‘McAuthors’ and ‘All for One’ where the sometimes adult humour was very well delivered by the Musketeers. ‘We Made That‘ was true to pantomime style with an extremely amusing Tunnocks Tea cake and of course the obligatory audience participating in song with actions.
This entire evening was a real spectacle with magnificent stage sets, costumes and lighting. It was so evident that all of the near 300 young people on stage were having a wonderful time and this atmosphere of enjoyment spilt over into the audience who were only too willing to be involved with the fun.
Having the chance to be part of a team like this gives so many youngsters a real opportunity to build up self confidence and work together supporting each other in order to make sure everything is right and certainly worked. This was a well nigh flawless evening of entertainment which all of these brownies, guides, cub scouts and scouts should be incredibly proud of.
But of course it isn’t only the cast who have to work really hard remembering songs, dances, lines, moves and which costume to wear. The production team put in a tremendous amount of time and effort in order to get a show to such a professional standard as this is. Directing, choreographing and arranging music and the hundreds of costumes to suit such a large group must be a daunting task but the end product is quite amazing. All those on stage, behind the scenes and who have helped in any way making this production so impressive must be congratulated.
This Gang certainly got it right . A wonderful evening and who would have believed this was the opening night !
