It’s congratulations to the Dundee Gang who, this year, are celebrating 50 Glorious Years with their Golden Jubilee Gang Show! The show, literally, started off with a bang and then the cast burst forth on to the stage in their white and red GS show uniforms and put their heart and souls into their show performances. There was, of course, a tribute to the man who made it all possible, original creator Ralph Reader, and the youngsters (and the not so young leaders!) belted out many of Ralph’s famous song numbers in well-drilled stage movement as, behind them, were screened photographs from down the years evoking many memories. There was quite a modern touch to this year’s anniversary show and, in another item, we were taken on a musical journey in the form of a James Bond tribute with the cast lustily performing the well known songs. Comedy featured in the show and this gave the “older” male leaders the chance to “drag up” as elderly ladies who found themselves in a haunted house complete with ghosts! More fun in the “We’re history” number as historical figures came alive to express their view in this present day! Other items on view were “Wartime Memories”, “Summer In The Sixties” and, In a “surprise”, and extremely nostalgic moment, the man who started Gang Show in Dundee and produced 31 Gang Shows – Roger Buist – and the show’s current Producer – Graeme Smith  - who appeared in the very first Dundee show, were both “unmasked” in a comedy spot  to receive the plaudits for their hard work within the show – a nice touch! To mark this Golden Jubilee Show, the production team hit on a unique way to recognise it – in the show’s Finale, the cast are always found sitting tiered up on high rostra wearing their traditional Red Gang Show scarves . . . only this time, the Red Scarves were edged in gold to recognize this special show! Musical Director Richard Waghorn (another original Dundee GS Scout) kept the orchestra in hand, whilst his wife, Rebecca, ensured that the show’s dancers were well-drilled in their dancing ensembles. Well done, Gang!
