It is good to see local groups performing at the newly refurbished Rosehill Theatre again, and what a play to perform!.
The audience were treated to an excellent performance, from Ray Cooney’s classic comedy. There were some stand out performances, and to be honest there wasn’t a weak link in the company. Special mention must go to Vanessa Turpin and Shaun Donald, playing Jean and Henry Perkins, they were quite outstanding, and were virtually on stage from opening to finale .Rachel Denwood and Stuart Buchanan were excellent as the Perkins dinner guests, the Johnsons, Betty and Vic. Director Will was a convincing rather shady detective sergeant, and Craig Rielly was equally convincing as the rather morose detective. To complete the cast Stuart Evans was a good but very impatient taxi driver, and Ben Brinicombe played a lovely cameo part ,towards the finale, as a very aggressive passer by.
The play is very very funny, but the plot is far too complicated to explain in a review. There were loads of belly laughs from the very enthusiastic audience, at the shenanigans going on during the plot. All very very enjoyable indeed. The company deserved a bigger audience than they had on opening night, I hope they get full houses as the week progresses.
The Perkins lounge set, built by the company was very good, and lighting and sound suited the situation. Well done to Sergeant Will for his direction, and performance, I know how hard he must have worked. Congratulations to the whole company for a brilliant evenings entertainment. Enjoy the rest of the run. I could happily watch it all again
