‘Frozen Assets’ is a very funny, well written dark comedy by Tom Casling. The plot has lots of unexpected twists, so keeps the audience on the edge of their seats throughout the performance. The play opens with Peter Middleditch discovering his dead mother Brenda, although upset he is annoyed that she has died three days before a large insurance pay out, along with his pregnant wife Claire they decide to put her body in the freezer, when they realise that Brenda was due to host a séance and have a medical before the insurance pay out they hire an actor to play the part of Brenda, the actor is called Ashley but Ashley turns out to be a man! They convince Brenda’s boyfriend Sid that she has gone away for a few days and Ashley insists that he is able to play Brenda convincingly the plot unfolds with hilarious consequences …

The plays directors, Jack Dawson and Sarah Laing have done a wonderful job, good casting and staging and the piece had a really good pace, especially during act two. All the actors gave very good performances; the role of Peter Middleditch was played by Laura Ilkiw-Jenkins, I wasn’t sure this worked for me, but never the less she gave a good performance. Sarah Hardwick was strong in the role of Claire Middleditch and worked well with Laura. Craig Jones gave a good portrayal in the role of Sid Johnson, Brenda’s boyfriend. John Williams as Ashley Hall gave a performance that I enjoyed very much, his timing was excellent. A convincing performance came from Emily Morgan as Dr Rose Watson. There were notable performances from Poppy Kent as Cybil, Lilita Viksne as Mavis and Neesha Bhogal as Edith. Lynne Yates was excellent as Brenda Middleditch. Lilita Viksne gave a good account as the Police Officer. Well done to all the cast!

The set for this production was excellent and was very well-dressed. The costumes were all very good and in keeping with the play. The lighting and sound quality was excellent throughout the performance. I must add too, what a lovely venue The Abbey Centre is!

Thank you to all at Abbey Community Theatre for this very funny and highly entertaining production of ‘Frozen Assets’
