Edinburgh Music Theatre presented two shows as part of the Festival Fringe, the first of these being FRINGE FANTASMIC.
This programme comprised musical numbers from Disney films and shows and a family friendly, fun environment was immediately apparent as the youngsters in the audience responded and reacted to the many numbers they recognised. The opening “Be Our Guest” got the evening off to a great start and from there on the cast was exuberant and full of vitality interacting well with the audience. Big company numbers like the “Silly Disney Mix” which contained songs from Cinderella, The Lion King and Mary Poppins and “We’re All In This Together” from High School Musical were vocally very strong and exciting to watch and listen to contrasting well with the stillness and harmonious “When You Wish Upon A Star” from Pinocchio.
There were also some excellent solo performances namely David Docherty’s “Go the Distance” from Hercules, David Bartholomew’s endearing snowman song “In Summer” from Frozen and Jennifer Good’s enchanting “When She Loved Me” from Toy Story 2 as well as first class ensemble work from The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Aladdin and Hercules.
The final number “Let It Go” from Frozen was perfectly sung by Claire MacLean and the company who then invited the children in the audience, many in their Disney Princess dresses, to join them on the stage area and reprise the number. This was a very nice touch which delighted the children who appeared to know all the words bringing this most enjoyable part of the evening to a close. An excellent concert which was deservedly very well received by a capacity audience. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
