Footloose the Musical
Thank you for inviting Phyllis and I to your production of Footloose the Musical, and for your very hospitable welcome, it was lovely to see a near full house at the Carnegie.
The set was moved quietly and efficiently ,although I do think the use of more hand properties, particularly in the kitchen scene would have helped, these could have been brought on and removed by the actors. When the stage is clear of scenery, and with only principals on, perhaps you could have considered moving the action upstage of the prosceneium arch, so that there wasn’t such a large expanse of empty stage behind them, just a thought. The lighting was well executed, but unfortunately on the night I attended the mics were quite noisy and crackly and sometimes late being turned on. The costumes suited the production well.
The choreography in the ensemble numbers was performed with style and syncronicity at all times. It was clear that the audience were thoroughly enjoying the show. There was certainly no drop in pace during the high energy numbers and it was obvious that everyone on stage were thoroughly enjoying themselves, although there were some tuning issues from time to time. All the principals acted their roles very well, making the storyline clear. Adam MacCreedy played his character Ren convincingly, and it goes without saying his dancing was excellent. Daniel MacCreedy, as Willard Hewitt was extremely funny, his comedy timing was superb. His rendition of ‘Mama Says’ was the standout number for me!.
The whole casts enthusiasm and energy really does deserve a very big round of applause. Well done and thankyou.
